WM Scandal Has Consequences

Norway reacts to the suit scandal at the Nordic Ski WM. Two officials have been suspended. The federation is committed to full clarification.

Norway's Ski Federation has responded to the suit scandal at the home championship in Trondheim by suspending Chief Ski Jumping Coach Magnus Brevik and service technician Adrian Livelten, as announced by Norges Skiforbund on Monday afternoon. The former Slovenian World Cup ski jumper Bine Norcic, who has been an assistant coach for Norway since 2022, will temporarily take over responsibility.

The scandal began rolling on Saturday after damaging video recordings came to light, and on Sunday Norwegian sports director Jan-Erik Aalbu admitted to the fraud. He emphasized that he and the affected Norwegian jumpers, including Marius Lindvik, world champion from the normal hill, were not informed about the manipulation of the jump suits.

Aalbu was specifically expressed trust by the federation on Monday.

WM Scandal: Intentional Manipulation of Ski Jump Suits

The information that has emerged about these incidents is so severe that it represents grounds for suspending the employment relationship with Brevik and Livelten, the Norwegian federation stated in a press release: "We take this matter very seriously and believe that the equipment was intentionally manipulated in violation of FIS regulations to gain an advantage in competition."

It appears confirmed that on Friday evening Brevik and Livelten decided to sew a thicker, stiffer thread into the suits of Johann Andre Forfang and Marius Lindvik, the federation added. They currently lack an overview of possible further actions.

He fully supports the demands of the ski jump committee and has therefore decided to suspend Brevik and Livelten with immediate effect in accordance with the provisions of the working environment act, says the current secretary general of the Norwegian ski federation, Ola Keul.

Both Brevik and Livelten have accepted the decision. This means they will not be working for the Norwegian Ski Federation until further notice.

After the federation and FIS investigations are completed, a final statement will be made regarding Brevik and Livelten.
