Jan Hörl has secured a silver medal in the ski jumping competitions at the World Championships in Trondheim, following the disqualification of Norwegian jumper Marius Lindvik, which moved him up one spot. The gold medal was claimed decisively by Slovenia's Domen Prevc, with Japan's Ryoyu Kobayashi taking home the bronze medal.
Maximilian Ortner finished in sixth place, while World Cup leader Daniel Tschofenig and former world champion Stefan Kraft placed ninth and twelfth, respectively.
Hörl's performance marked his fourth medal at the championships. Austria has now achieved a total of eight medals, but the coveted gold remains elusive. The final day of competition will feature the 50 km cross-country event, where Teresa Stadlober holds outsider chances for a medal.
The competition was marred by a scandal involving suit manipulations by the Norwegians. The Austrian Ski Association, together with Slovenia and Poland, lodged a protest against the host nation's participation, which was rejected. Nevertheless, the originally second-placed Lindvik and fifth-placed Johann Andre Forfang were later disqualified due to improper suits, while another Norwegian, Kristoffer Eriksen Sundal, was disqualified after the first round.
Tschofenig, who has won eight times this season, expressed disappointment over his placement.
"It was not great; I expected more. I just couldn't find my form on this hill. I'm glad to be leaving this place," he shared.
Meanwhile, the three-time world champion Kraft ended up without a medal again, mirroring his performance in 2023. "I'm genuinely surprised that I'm so far off, as the jumps felt quite good. I am quite puzzled as it hasn't come together for me, apparently," the Salzburg native said.
In contrast, the eighth-placed World Cup rookie Ortner was quite pleased. "I knew I was in good shape, but I never thought the World Championships would end like this. I'm very content," he added.
Domen Prevc, who also won gold with the men's team, celebrated a family victory, with his sister Nika being a double world champion. "I can hardly believe it; I have to process this. For Nika, I was even happier than for myself. I shed a few tears for her," commented Prevc.
