Wisła competition nearly canceled! Adam Małysz reveals the backstage story

The World Cup ski jumping competition in Wisła nearly did not take place as a major issue arose involving the jump's landing area. Adam Małysz, president of the Polish Ski Association, revealed that after the Friday snowfall, the landing area became too soft, leading to damage. The organizers were faced with a critical situation when they discovered a deep hole on the landing hill just before the competition was set to commence.
Małysz explained, "After Friday’s snowfall and given that the landing area was soft on Saturday, we needed to level it out. However, during the repairs, a trench appeared that extended to the safety nets at the 100-meter mark."
In response to the immediate danger posed to the competition, workers were called in the night before to address the situation quickly. "Great applause is owed to the organizers for averting disaster because it was a dire situation," Małysz concluded during his conversation with Interia Sports.
Despite these challenging circumstances, the event proceeded, featuring breathtaking moments and unexpected twists. While Polish jumpers did not contend for victory, they achieved their best performance of the season, with six Polish athletes advancing to the second round. Paweł Wąsek stood out with an impressive eleventh-place finish.
