Wellinger/Raimund miss podium in Lahti
Andreas Wellinger and Philipp Raimund have missed the podium in the Super Team competition held in Lahti, Finland, finishing fourth behind the winning Slovenian duo of Anze Lanisek and Lovro Kos.
Having previously excelled in the season, Wellinger and Raimund's performance on the Salpausselkä jump has proved disappointing, showing a lack of energy compared to prior appearances.
Considering their previous strong showing in the individual competition, where they both placed in the top six, this result casts a shadow at a critical stage in the season with the World Cup final approaching. Their total points of 762.1 were insufficient to make up lost meters against the top competitors.
Wellinger reflected on their performance, stating, "We left too many points on the table and lacked the flow and energy from the individuals, which affected our jumps."
Raimund also expressed disappointment, saying, "I wasn't on my game today, it was frustrating."
The Super Team competition format, which is set to replace the traditional team event with four jumpers at the Olympics starting in 2026, had initially seemed a promising contest for the German team, following their earlier success in Titisee-Neustadt.
As they look to the upcoming World Cup finale in Planica, which features two individual events and a team fly, many are left to ponder if Wellinger and Raimund can reclaim their top form in time.
