Wellinger Finishes Twelfth in Willingen as Tschofenig Wins Again

At the World Cup in Willingen, German ski jumper Andreas Wellinger managed to deliver a positive performance amid a very disappointing outing for his team. With the event dominated by Austria’s Daniel Tschofenig – who recorded jumps of 150.0 and 148.0 to secure his win – only a few competitors managed to progress to the second round. For Germany, besides Wellinger, only Philipp Raimund (finishing 15th) advanced before a crowd of 13,164 disappointed fans.

The overall performance of the German team was a major letdown, as it marked the third consecutive competition without any German reaching the top 10. Notable jumpers such as five-time season winner Pius Paschke (31st), Karl Geiger (33rd), Felix Hoffmann (39th), and Adrian Tittel (45th) all failed to make the second round. In contrast, on the podium were Tschofenig, as well as Norway’s Johann Andre Forfang and Austria’s Jan Hörl.

Despite the poor results, DSV sports director Horst Hüttel reassured that there is no imminent threat to the team’s coaching situation, noting that any change would come with its own risks. This result, arriving just three weeks before the World Championships, was seen as a brief moment of damage control for a team in crisis.
