His medal coup at the WM was celebrated unusually by Andreas Wellinger.
Following his silver medal win behind Norwegian Marius Lindvik, Wellinger expressed hope for a turnaround in the German ski jumping team, stating, "We have managed to pull ourselves out of the hole and are on the rise. This path should continue." The DSV eagles had not reached a single World Cup podium in 2025 prior to this.
Wellinger described the evening after his win: "I had little time to celebrate. The schedule was tight, and I only managed to have dinner at half-past nine. It was a relatively relaxing evening—we toasted with a drink and played two hours of table tennis, which was extremely fun. Then I fell into bed at 1 am and was glad for the peace."
The competition continues on Wednesday in the mixed event, where Germany has won gold five times in a row recently. Wellinger added, "I am extremely looking forward to the mixed event, not only because we are defending champions but also because the team has performed remarkably well in Lillehammer, Willingen, and Lake Placid this winter. The mixed event is always exciting because anything can happen from start to finish."
However, should Wellinger be awarded another medal, he faces the dilemma of attending the medal ceremony in downtown Trondheim and missing his beloved Bayern Munich's Champions League match against Bayer Leverkusen.
"If I get to go to the award ceremony, I would be very happy. But if I can see Bayern live, then I must have done something wrong," he remarked.
