A Historic Step Towards Gender Equality in Ski Jumping

For the very first time, female ski jumpers have competed in the Two Nights Tour, which serves as the women's counterpart to the renowned Four Hills Tournament. This milestone is considered a pivotal advancement toward achieving equality in the sport.

World champion Alexandria Loutitt and other athletes underscored the necessity of ongoing efforts to drive further progress. The Two Nights Tour, hosted in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, is designed to replicate the prestigious men’s event, which takes place over four stages across Germany and Austria.

However, various organizational challenges have hindered the establishment of a complete tour for women, including logistical issues and existing contracts that complicate any potential expansion. Despite these obstacles, this event represents a significant move towards promoting gender equality within ski jumping.

During the final at Garmisch, the audience turnout for the women’s event was noticeably lower compared to the men's qualifications. Nevertheless, this historic occasion was hailed as an essential first step. Eva Pinkelnig, the reigning crystal globe champion from last year, expressed optimism for a full tour in the upcoming season, with hopes of incorporating further stages in cities like Innsbruck and Bischofshofen.
