Tschofenig Fourth - ÖSV Winning Streak Ends at Oberstdorf Ski Flying

The World Cup victory streak of the Austrian team came to a halt at the first ski flying event of the season in Oberstdorf. Daniel Tschofenig, who triumphed at the Vierschanzentournee, finished just 0.8 points shy of the podium, landing in fourth place on Saturday, January 25, 2025.

This loss not only marks the end of ÖSV's string of eight consecutive wins but also halts a remarkable run of 24 events in which at least one Austrian competitor secured a spot on the podium.

The title was claimed by Slovenia's Timi Zajc, who became the first winner of the season not from Austria (9 wins) or Germany (6 wins). Zajc triumphed on the Klopfer flying hill ahead of Norway's Johann Andre Forfang and his compatriot Domen Prevc.

After a strong start in the first round, Tschofenig slipped to fourth by the second run, ending his personal success streak of seven podium finishes. The current World Cup leader from Carinthia had previously won in Bischofshofen and Zakopane. Maximilian Ortner secured the position of second-best Austrian, finishing in sixth place right ahead of Michael Hayböck.

Meanwhile, world champion Stefan Kraft was disqualified for a non-compliant suit due to air permeability issues in the second round, a disappointment given that he wouldn’t have placed among the top competitors regardless. The team has another chance for redemption on Sunday in Bavaria.
