Thomas Thurnbichler speaks frankly: Paweł Wąsek's head wasn't quite functioning

Thomas Thurnbichler, the coach of the Polish ski jumpers, explained after the competition that "Paweł knew what he needed to focus on. For the first two days, his head wasn’t functioning quite properly, but he overcame that and achieved good speed." Wąsek finished fourth in the ski flying competition in Oberstdorf, despite not making it to the second round the day before.

In the post-competition discussions, Thurnbichler expressed satisfaction with Wąsek's turnaround, stating, "An incredible story after two tough days; Paweł stuck to our plan. He jumped excellently, his flight phase was phenomenal. He knew what he needed to concentrate on."

Piotr Żyła: "I felt like someone put a sack on my back"

Piotr Żyła, who placed 18th, remarked, "I was counting on second place; what gets delayed doesn't escape. I didn’t manage to jump that well. I felt like someone had put a sack on my back, but I'm somewhat satisfied."

Another Polish jumper, Aleksander Zniszczoł, performed better, finishing in 15th place. "The jumps were great; I finally had some fun. It was better than after the first jump, a different focus in the take-off position, which was more active and stable," he explained.

Only Jakub Wolny did not advance to the second series, finishing in 33rd place. He expressed disappointment, stating, "I didn't have the best luck. It's a pity because I wanted to jump well. I had a good feeling and was well-prepared. It’s a bit of a slap in the face."
