Thomas Thurnbichler Explains Polish Ski Jumping Disaster: Reveals the Reason
Originally published in Przegląd Sportowy Onet on January 31, 2025
After a dismal showing at the World Cup event in Willingen, Polish ski jumping coach Thomas Thurnbichler offered his analysis of the team’s poor performance. He explained that Paweł Wąsek struggled with his approach, particularly in keeping his center of gravity forward during take-off. This technical shortfall prevented him from maintaining the stable position needed for an optimal jump.
Thurnbichler further commented on Aleksander Zniszczoł’s performance, noting that even though he managed a better jump compared to training, he lacked the necessary confidence. The coach also criticized the female ski jumpers for underperforming, observing that their over-eagerness interfered with maintaining proper approach speed and a stable flight phase.
Overall, the Polish team ended up in a disappointing ninth place, failing to advance to the second series—a result that Thurnbichler hopes to address through focused technical improvements.
