In Lahti, Finland, at the Salpausselkä ski jump, eight Polish athletes are set to participate in the upcoming World Cup ski jumping competitions. The women will compete on Thursday and Friday, followed by the men's events on Saturday and Sunday. Polish athletes making the trip include Paweł Wąsek, Aleksander Zniszczoł, Kamil Stoch, Dawid Kubacki, Jakub Wolny, Maciej Kot, as well as Anna Twardosz and Pola Bełtowska. They will compete in the same lineup as in the recent Raw Air series held in Norway, which was won by Germany's Andreas Wellinger.
On Saturday, there will be an individual competition for the men, while a duet competition will take place on Sunday. Notably, the Norwegian team will not be participating, as several of their athletes, including Marius Lindvik and Johann Andre Forfang, have been suspended by the International Ski Federation (FIS) for cheating related to their suits. A total of 14 Finnish competitors will participate—seven men and seven women.
The competition in Lahti is significant as it is one of the most recognized ski jumps in the world, built in 1972, with a size of 130 meters. The record for this jump belongs to Norway's Johann Andre Forfang, who leaped 138 meters in 2017. The Lahti Ski Games, featuring skiing, jumping, and Nordic combined events, have been held for over a century. Since 1980, these games have been part of the World Cup series.
Fin Matti Nykaenen has won at Lahti a total of eight times, while both Adam Małysz and Kamil Stoch have triumphed there three times each. Other Polish athletes to stand on the podium include Zniszczoł and Piotr Żyła, and collectively, the Polish team has made it to the podium in team competitions six times. Last year, Sloovanian Lovro Kos, Austrian Jan Hoerl, and the Norwegian team won their events in Lahti. The last Finnish victory in Lahti, however, was in 2006 when Janne Happonen emerged victorious.
