They want new penalties after the skiing scandal. Clear proposal

One of the key issues raised after the scandal broke during the World Championships in Trondheim involves the penalties given to athletes for manipulating equipment. Many experts believe the current penalties are too lenient to deter such actions. Severin Freund presented potential new measures in an interview with NRK.

Since the World Championships ended in Trondheim over a week ago, more competitions have taken place in the World Cup, yet the most heated topic remains the repercussions of the Norwegian jumpers' cheating.

Currently, the only penalties handed to both athletes and three staff members have been temporary suspensions from FIS. After the manipulation was detected, Marius Lindvik and Johann Andre Forfang were disqualified, so their results did not count towards the overall standings in the large hill contest.

Currently, the FIS Independent Department of Ethics and Compliance is conducting an investigation into this matter. It strongly indicates that further penalties will be imposed on the Norwegian team.

Severin Freund has a proposal for FIS

Many experts believe disqualifications imposed by FIS for irregular equipment are currently insufficient to deter athletes from manipulating equipment. Severin Freund is among those who suggest possible new sanctions, mentioning suspension, fines, or even limiting the number of suits permitted for use.

— This would mean more serious consequences than just disqualification from a single event. The current rules have created a culture where everyone wants to take risks, allowing the mindset "we have the World Championships here, so maybe it is really worth taking that risk," says the former jumper and now expert.

— We need to create an environment where jumpers and teams say: "okay, maybe we have an idea, but it’s not worth the risk because the stakes are too high," he adds.
