LAKE PLACID — Lake Placid native and New York Ski Educational Foundation athlete Tate Frantz won two U.S. Ski Jumping National Championship titles this past weekend in both the small hill and large hill competitions during the Flaming Leaves Festival at the Olympic Jumping Complex.
Frantz opened up the weekend on Saturday, Oct. 12 with a one-jump score of 143.3 in the HS100 event. His efforts were good enough to edge out Erik Belshaw (141.8) by a thin margin. Decker Dean finished right behind in third place with 141.3 points.
On Oct. 13, Frantz secured his second title with a pair of strong jumps in the HS128 event. Casey Larson placed second while Andrew Urlaub rounded out the podium in third place.
In the women’s jumping event, Annika Belshaw claimed the U.S. National Championship for the fourth year in a row in the HS100 event on Oct. 12. Josie Johnson secured second place, with Sam Macuga rounding out the podium in third place.
Belshaw soared to victory once more in the HS128, making her an eight-time U.S. National Champion. Paige Jones earned her spot on the podium for this event, coming in second place with Josie Johnson finishing in third.
In the Nordic combined events, Niklas Malacinski won the men’s title, while Alex Brabec topped the women’s event, showcasing impressive performances across both disciplines during the festival events held in Lake Placid.
