This was an unexpected occurrence! In the upcoming ski jumping competition in Ruka, Finland, Chinese representative Song Qiwu secured his spot. According to Adam Bucholz from Skijumping.pl, the last competition in which any Chinese athlete participated was almost 6888 days ago.

Song Qiwu qualified with a remarkable jump of 102.5 meters, finishing in 45th place during the qualifications, ahead of several more decorated athletes.

This achievement is historic, as it marks the first qualification for a Chinese ski jumper in nearly 18 years. Bucholz highlighted this momentous occasion on platform X, stating, "6888 days — that's how long the Chinese have waited for a qualification at a World Cup event with one of their representatives. Although Song Qiwu already participated in the World Cup competition in Rasnov, there were no qualifications held back then."

Moreover, Song Qiwu outperformed notable competitors like Norway’s Robert Johansson, Switzerland’s Kilian Peier, Slovenia’s Lovro Kos, and Czech’s Roman Koudelka, making his success even more impressive.

While it seems unlikely for Qiwu to advance to the second round, it remains a possibility. Fans can follow the live updates of the competition on Przegląd Sportowy Onet.
