Exciting Finish in Japan

In the first team event of the winter, Selina Freitag and Agnes Reisch surprised everyone by jumping to victory. In Zao, Japan, they finalized their first team win of the season in a thrilling conclusion.

Norway appeared nearly secure in their lead, but a last-minute stumble from their final jumper allowed Germany to leap ahead and claim victory. This pivotal moment turned the competition on its head, with Germany finishing just 4.2 points ahead of Norway, while Austria came in third, trailing by 4.3 points.

Three Rounds to the Podium

Freitag and Reisch represented the DSV team, while Katharina Schmid focused on the individual competition to be held on Sunday, after losing the yellow jersey for overall World Cup leader the day before.

After the first round, Norway held a narrow lead over Germany, but by the second round, their advantage had extended to 7.6 points, putting them in a strong position as the final round approached. However, everything changed in the last round as Reisch, with a jump of 99.5 meters, set the stage for a nail-biting finish. Kvandal of Norway, leading until that point, could not handle the pressure and fell after her impressive 102.5-meter jump, gifting Germany the sensational victory.

The event featured two jumpers per nation competing over three rounds, with the first round narrowing the field to twelve nations, then the top eight proceeding to the finale. Surprisingly, the Super-Team format will not be part of the Nordic World Ski Championships scheduled to take place in Trondheim starting February 26.
