Vintersport: Success for Walter Wallberg in Season Opener in Ruka: 'I Have Worked Hard'
Walter Wallberg got off to a great start in the mogul skiing season opener in Ruka, Finland, securing a second place behind superstar Mikaël Kingsbury. "I feel fantastic; it has been a long pre-season. I have worked hard to come back from the knee injury I had," Wallberg said in a press release from the ski federation.
He celebrated with a triumphant shake of his fist after receiving a score of 81.14 points, temporarily placing him in the lead in the superfinal.
Unfortunately, reigning Olympic champion and Canadian skier Mikaël Kingsbury scored 83.90 points, clinching the first victory of the World Cup season. Japanese skier Ikuma Horishima secured third place.
Additionally, three other Swedish competitors, Rasmus Stegfeldt, Robin Olgård, and Filip Gravenfors, made it to the finals but did not qualify for the superfinal, where the top six battled for podium positions. The mogul World Cup continues next week in Idre.
