"We tried everything"

No German ski jumper has won the Four Hills Tournament in the last 23 years. Even before the first competition, it seemed that Pius Paschke could end that curse, but he quickly fell out of contention for the Golden Eagle. Following the competition in Innsbruck, even the German coach left no illusions. — Sport is sport, we tried everything. We will be back next year — said Stefan Horngacher in an interview with ARD.

On Monday, the final competition of the 73rd Four Hills Tournament will take place. Competing for victory are Austrians Stefan Kraft, Jan Hoerl, and Daniel Tschofenig, with only 1.3 points separating them.

Interestingly, Germans have been waiting for a triumph in the Four Hills Tournament for 23 years. The last representative of our western neighbors to achieve this feat was Sven Hannawald in the 2001/02 season.

— I am not disappointed. Otherwise, I would have been disappointed 23 years ago. Sport is sport, we tried everything. We will be back next year — Horngacher stated.

The last competition of the Four Hills Tournament is scheduled for January 6 at 16:30 in Bischofshofen. Coverage of this event can be followed on the Przegląd Sportowy Onet website.
