Engelberg: Second Women's Ski Jumping Event Aborted

The second World Cup event for women in Engelberg was aborted on Sunday after some waiting and then during the first round after 48 out of 55 jumpers had completed their attempts. It was previously agreed to score the event based on just one round, but it became impossible due to the heavy snowfall and unstable conditions.

At the time of the cancellation, the Austrian Jacqueline Seifriedsberger was in second place after a jump of 128.5 meters, behind Norway's Anna Odine Ström, who had a jump of 132 meters. The current best competitors from Austria, Eva Pinkelnig and Lisa Eder, had not yet jumped.

The athletes will take a break for Christmas and will resume with the Two-Nights-Tour in Garmisch-Partenkirchen on December 30 and 31, followed by Oberstdorf on January 1.

"When I jumped, the conditions were actually flawless. At the moment, it is really snowing heavily. It was the right decision to call it off," said Seifriedsberger, adding that safety comes first, and they all want to celebrate Christmas healthily at home.

Lisa Eder, who was the best Austrian the day before finishing fourth, also supported the jury's decision. "To be honest, I am glad that I went down with the lift now."

Due to the weather situation, the qualification for the men's event on the same jump had already been moved to the morning. Maximilian Ortner came ahead of Stefan Kraft in that qualification.
