Revolution in Ski Jumping After World Championship Scandal?
Originally published in Krone on March 11, 2025
Following a significant scandal regarding manipulated suits revealed during the Nordic Ski World Championships, Norway's ski jumping team faces a crisis of credibility. The International Ski Federation (FIS) is now under pressure to revise its regulations concerning equipment checks. Currently, the verification process relies on manual measurements, which are prone to human error. FIS Material Commission chief Andreas Bauer suggested adopting modern technology, such as 3D scanners, to accurately inspect each suit and ensure compliance before, during, and after competitions. This technology could greatly enhance fairness in the sport by preventing manipulations related to suit performance.
