German Record Champion Struggles in Trondheim

Record world champion Katharina Schmid was unable to match the pace during training for the upcoming World Championships in Trondheim. In her three jump attempts, she landed in 16th, 22nd, and 25th places with each jump trailing by more than ten meters behind the leaders.

Schmid, who has previously won three golds and one bronze at the World Championships in Planica two years ago, did not feel confident with her approach. "It wasn’t quite as good; I haven’t found the right feeling yet and do not feel optimal during the in-run," she explained.

By contrast, hopeful Selina Freitag, who had recently achieved four consecutive second-place finishes in the World Cup, showed much brighter prospects. Freitag posted the best German results with jumps landing in 9th, 4th, and 3rd positions. The event also featured strong performances by Norway’s Eirin Maria Kvandal, who won the first two rounds, and Japan’s Sara Takanashi who claimed victory in the third round.

Training for the championships is ongoing. Qualification is set for Thursday at 20:30 local time, with the decision on the normal hill scheduled for Friday at 14:00.
