Ski Jumping: Wellinger and Co. Weak in First Training
The German ski jumping team has opened the medal quest on the large hill with a disappointing training session. In the three rounds held on Tuesday, Andreas Wellinger was the best performer from the DSV team, finishing in 17th, 22nd, and 12th places. Wellinger had surprisingly won silver on the normal hill just last Sunday.
Karl Geiger, who was strong in the smaller hill, finished poorly with rankings of 47th, 31st, and 30th. Pius Paschke (24th/34th/29th), Philipp Raimund (29th/27th/14th), and Stephan Leyhe (32nd/24th/27th) also had lackluster performances. Austrian Jan Hörl won the first two rounds and skipped the third, which was won by Slovenia's Anze Lanisek.
Wellinger and his teammates still have the mixed competition on Wednesday, the team event on Thursday, and the individual event on Saturday to come on the large hill in Trondheim.
