Ski Jumping: Wellinger and Schmid Claim DM Titles

In Garmisch-Partenkirchen, two favorites claimed victory on Saturday evening.

Andreas Wellinger, a two-time Olympic champion, and former world champion Katharina Schmid captured the individual titles at the German Championships in ski jumping. On the Olympic hill, Wellinger, aged 29, secured his third national title with jumps of 143.5 and 143.0 meters, totaling 308.4 points, comfortably ahead of Karl Geiger (295.3 points). Pius Paschke placed third with 287.9 points. Wellinger had previously won titles in 2017 and 2022.

Katharina Schmid, 28, also excelled with jumps of 123.0 and 132.5 meters, finishing with 290.5 points to surpass Selina Freitag, who had recently won the title twice, and Juliane Seyfarth, who finished in third place with 258.0 points. "I am really happy; it was a great summer for me," said Schmid.

The World Cup season for both men and women will commence on snow in Lillehammer from November 22 to 24.
