Austrian ski jumper Michael Hayböck, a veteran of the sport and a key figure for the ÖSV (Austrian Ski Federation), has declared that he will retire at the end of this season. In a candid statement, Hayböck remarked, "It is a privilege to be able to make this decision rather than be forced to," underscoring that his exit is voluntary and well considered.

Over the years, Hayböck has been a stalwart on the World Cup circuit, competing in 367 events, achieving 60 podium finishes and clinching 17 victories – five of those individually. Despite encountering several health challenges including a syndesmosis ligament tear, bone marrow edema, and a herniated disc, he was known as the team player of the ÖSV and a consistent performer in major competitions. His final events, including the title clashes in Trondheim, will mark the culmination of a long and successful career in ski jumping.

Looking ahead, the 33-year-old plans to devote more time to his family after the recent arrival of his son Niklas. “Plan A is to be a dad,” he stated, highlighting his eagerness to embrace life off the ski jump. His departure leaves a significant void in the Austrian team, which has long relied on his experience and competitive spirit in events at venues such as Titisee-Neustadt, Garmisch-Partenkirchen, and Oberstdorf.
