Ski Jumping: Selina Freitag Wins Qualification in Garmisch-Partenkirchen
Selina Freitag has won the qualification for the opening jump of the Two Nights Tour in Garmisch-Partenkirchen.
Freitag, currently ranked fourth in the World Cup standings, jumped 132.5 meters, securing her first place in the qualification round with a score of 137.8 points.
"I am really satisfied," said Freitag after her jump, "I had a good training session and started strong here in Garmisch. I knew that if I continued like this, the qualification would go well. I hope it carries on."
Norway's Eirin Maria Kvandal placed second with a jump of 135 meters and a score of 136.7 points. Defending champion Nika Prevc rounded out the top three, jumping 127.5 meters for a score of 135.8 points. Close behind was Katharina Schmid, who finished in fourth place with a jump of 125.5 meters, scoring a total of 134.1 points.
A small surprise came from Agnes Reich, who jumped 136 meters for ninth place, while the competition saw the landing zone shortened afterward. Juliane Seyfarth qualified in 14th place with a jump of 124.5 meters, and Alvine Holz also secured a spot in the competition with a 27th place finish.
The New Year's Eve jump is scheduled to begin at 4:20 PM (Live Stream and Ticker). The second part, which serves as a semi-four-hills tour, will take place in Oberstdorf on New Year's Day.
Schmid expressed her excitement about jumping in front of her home crowd, stating, "Jumping at home, in front of friends and family who are there, is really special."
The competitions held within the framework of the Two Nights Tour act as a substitute for their hoped-for Four Hills Tournament, which the women are still waiting to participate in.
Freitag's strong qualification performance shines a light on the growing women’s competition in ski jumping, showcasing both talent and potential excitement for the upcoming series of events.
