Ski Jumping: Athlete Pushed Off the Jump - "It's a Scandal" | SVT Sports
Norwegian ski jumper Kristoffer Eriksen Sundal was involved in a dangerous incident during the jumping event in Lillehammer. As he sat poised to jump, he was unexpectedly struck in the back by a promotional banner, causing him to be pushed off the jump without the option to abort his jump.
Commentators expressed their shock, with NRK's Christian Nilssen stating, “It’s a scandal,” while his colleague Johan Remen Evensen added that it was one of the worst things he had seen, criticizing the safety protocols that allowed such an incident to occur.
Fortunately, Sundal managed to complete the jump safely, but he showed clear signs of distress after the incident, commenting, “Jesus Christ, that was not good. Luckily there’s some distance between the jump sections, so I was able to get my arms up. Had I got my arm caught there, it could have gone really wrong.”
This incident raised serious questions about safety in ski jumping events and sparked a discussion about the necessity of better safety measures for athletes.
