Ski Jumping: DSV Eagles Miss Trend Change Again in Ski Flying

In the first ski flying event of the World Cup season, the German ski jumpers were again unable to achieve the hoped-for turnaround. On January 25, 2025, in Oberstdorf, Karl Geiger managed to reach the top 10 but the DSV Eagles did not contest for podium positions.

The victory went to Slovenia's Timi Zajc at the Heini-Klopfer-Schanze, marking his fourth win in Oberstdorf this season.

Geiger had strong jumps of 195.5 meters and 224.5 meters, finishing in 10th place overall with 410.2 points, but he finished almost 30 meters short of the podium. The performance of teammates Andreas Wellinger, Pius Paschke, and Philipp Raimund was disappointing, each finishing outside the top spots.

Zajc's victory has maintained his lead in the overall World Cup standings, despite not having the easiest jumps himself. This event has further highlighted the struggles faced by the German team since stagnating results started, raising questions for the coaching staff about how to regain form before the upcoming competitions.

"We need to work hard and find confidence again," said Bundestrainer Stefan Horngacher in a post-competition interview as the team aims to return to success in the following events on the calendar.
