Ski Jumpers Trapped in Bus: Troubles and Fears Ahead of the World Cup in Poland

Swiss ski jumpers, led by Simon Ammann, experienced a nightmare during their return from the World Cup event in Ruka, Finland. After the competition, they were set to head home, but a series of unfortunate events turned their journey into a misadventure.

Initially, their bus became trapped with the luggage loaded in, as the doors refused to open. Björn Schneider, the head of the Swiss team, dryly observed, "At least we had something to eat."

Once freed, the team had to wait for a replacement vehicle. To add to their troubles, shortly after setting off, the driver lost control on an icy road, causing the bus to veer off the track. Fortunately, no one was injured, but frustration was mounting, especially as delays piled up.

When they finally reached Rovaniemi just past midnight, the bus was unable to navigate to their hotel due to unsafe conditions, diverting them directly to the airport instead. They arrived at 1:30 AM, but a further long wait was ahead - their flight to Helsinki wasn't scheduled until 5:20 AM. After arriving in Helsinki, the group split up, with most flying to Zurich while Schneider headed to Frankfurt. There he faced another blow as only one out of six checked bags arrived, leaving the team without essential equipment, including a sewing machine, physiotherapy bench, and radio.

Now, the Swiss team hopes to retrieve all their belongings before heading to Poland for the upcoming World Cup in Wisla from December 6 to 8.
