Ski jumper Daniel-André Tande, at the age of 30, has officially announced his retirement from the sport, sharing the news during an emotional interview with NRK. He revealed that a traumatic fall during a trial round in Planica in 2021 deeply affected his ability to compete at his previous level.

Following the accident, Tande spent time in a medically induced coma, but showed immense determination by making a comeback and triumphing in the prestigious Raw Air competition at Holmenkollen in 2022. Yet, despite this remarkable return, he confided that the trauma has left him with a psychological barrier that hinders his performance. He expressed, "The fear has become greater than the joy of ski jumping," underlining the mental struggle he has battled in recent seasons.

Looking back on his career, Tande reflected on how the ski jump has served as a refuge for him during both tough times and moments of happiness. Since beginning his World Cup journey in 2013, he has achieved notable success, including winning a gold medal in the team event at the 2018 Pyeongchang Olympics.

While contemplating an uncertain future, Tande remains hopeful for a more balanced life away from the relentless demands of competitive skiing. His retirement signals the end of an era for one of Norway's admirable ski jumpers.
