Severe Illness - Game Over! Ski Jumping Star Forced to End Season
Sara Marita Kramer has had to end her ski jumping season due to a severe illness she contracted earlier this year. The former overall World Cup winner has been unable to return to full training, prompting her absence from upcoming competitions.
Kramer was afflicted with shingles in January, and according to the ÖSV (Austrian Ski Federation), her focus is now on recovering completely and rebuilding a stable training rhythm.
Her last participation was in the qualification round of the New Year's Jumping event in Oberstdorf, where she finished in 31st place. At the end of 2023, she placed 24th in Garmisch-Partenkirchen. Her best finish this season was 16th place in Lillehammer on November 23.
Last Victory More Than Three Years Ago
Kramer has won 15 World Cup competitions to date, just one short of the ÖSV record holders Daniela Iraschko-Stolz and Eva Pinkelnig. However, it has been over three years since her last victory.
The women’s team from ÖSV for the program in Oslo starting Thursday and for ski flying in Vikersund this weekend will be identical to the selected four-member World Championship team. The top 25 in the World Cup will be eligible to compete in Vikersund, including Jacqueline Seifriedsberger, Lisa Eder, Eva Pinkelnig, and the recently flying Julia Mühlbacher.
Competitions Set Against the Backdrop of the World Championship Suit Scandal
On the men’s side, the Trondheim quintet will be joined by Manuel Fettner and Stephan Embacher. These competitions will likely occur under the shadow of the Norwegian World Championship suit scandal.
