The lottery-like competition in Ruka brought several surprising outcomes. While the podium did not shock, the results from the scoring athletes were certainly unusual. Performances from athletes from Kazakhstan and China hadn't been seen for nearly two decades. Moreover, an Estonian set a historic record.
The contest in Ruka was partially completed, with only one round fully conducted. The second was canceled just before the Polish jumps. Some athletes, such as Aleksander Zniszczoł, Halvor Egner Granerud, and Michael Hayboeck, faced misfortune.
It all began during qualifying. As Adam Bucholz from SkiJumping.pl calculated, Chinese athlete Song Qiwu secured his place in the World Cup competition for the first time, breaking a 6888-day streak. He performed better than notable competitors like Norwegian Robert Johansson, Swiss Kilian Peier, and Slovenian Lovro Kos. He finished in 37th place, marking the first time since 2006 that a Chinese athlete advanced past qualifications.
Additionally, the Kazakh athletes Danił Wasiljew and Ilja Miziernych scored points in the World Cup for the first time in 18 years. Notably, Danił Wasiljew finished in 18th and Ilja Miziernych in 25th place. This fact was highlighted by Piotr Bąk from SkiJumping.pl.
Moreover, TVP Sports journalist Mateusz Leleń noted that for the first time, a representative from Estonia finished within the top five of a World Cup competition. Artti Aigro achieved this remarkable feat, surpassing all Polish athletes to claim the 13th position in the overall ranking. From exotic countries, Bulgarian Władimir Zografski also earned points, while Turkish athletes did not succeed in the qualifiers, as Muhammed Ali Bedir and Faith Arda Ipcioglu dropped out.
