Jakub Wolny's Journey

Expectations were low, but after the weekend in Titisee-Neustadt, Jakub Wolny emerged as the Polish athlete with the best World Cup result. His path back to the top was arduous and filled with challenges, which he described as he prepared for the winter season.

"It was a blow for me because I wasn't entirely sure about it," he said, referring to the spring announcement that placed him into a base group.

On the weekend in Titisee-Neustadt, Wolny achieved a remarkable jump, finishing not only far but with impressive consistency, placing eighth in both the qualifiers and the main event. Such results had not been seen in the current season among his compatriots.

Overcoming Difficult Times

Wolny faced a challenging period, especially at the beginning of the year. His dissatisfaction with his collaboration with coach David Jiroutek during the January World Cup led him to voice his frustrations, resulting in a suspension.

Reflecting on that moment, he expressed regret for his comments, admitting they were impulsive and emotional, as he struggled to qualify for competitions.

A Turning Point

The breakthrough came during the competition in Wisła, where he scored points for the first time since March 2022, finishing in 26th place. Just a day later, he improved further, landing 18th. His performance in Titisee-Neustadt was his crowning achievement, confirming that his hard work was paying off.

Jakub's coach, Sławomir Hankus, noted the mental growth Wolny has achieved, emphasizing his shift in responsibility and maturity in the sport, which has made a significant difference in his performance.

Wolny articulated a clear goal for the season: regular points in the World Cup, culminating in a strong performance in Planica by executing a jump of 230 meters, something he is determined to achieve during this competition year.

As he gears up for more challenges ahead, Wolny's resilience and newfound confidence are key components of his journey back to the top of ski jumping.
