Ski Jumping in Lillehammer: Schmid and Freitag back on the podium

The German team has been performing exceptionally well at the Lillehammer ski jumping events. Following their victory in the mixed team event the previous day, they continued their strong performance in the women's individual competition on November 23, 2024. Katharina Schmid secured second place with 247.6 points, while Selina Freitag finished third with 244.6 points. The only competitor to surpass them was the dominant Nika Prevc from Slovenia, who won by over 20 points.

Both Schmid and Freitag's results contributed to an overall good performance by the German Ski Association’s team, with all six female jumpers earning World Cup points. The new women's national coach expressed satisfaction with the team’s consistency in training and successful execution in competition.

Selina Freitag made a notable impression with a strong jump of 135.5 meters in the first round, and despite needing to adjust her jump due to wind conditions, she initially led the competition. Katharina Schmid took the lead later with 123 meters and better evaluation from the judges. Schmid's second jump matched Freitag’s distance, but with better scores. Nika Prevc showcased her consistency and jumped 138.5 meters, establishing her significant lead in the event.

Other notable performances included Juliane Seyfarth, who landed in 11th place after the first jump but fell to 14th after her second, and Anna Hollandt, who narrowly qualified for the final, finishing 25th with her jumps.

The event was a promising start to the season for the German team, building confidence for upcoming competitions.
