Schmid and Freitag Achieve German Double Podium
In Lillehammer, German ski jumpers Katharina Schmid and Selina Freitag finished in second and third place respectively in a thrilling competition. They only lagged behind Slovenia's Nika Prevc, who claimed her eighth career victory. Schmid, competing at her favorite hill, delivered a strong performance with jumps of 123.0 m and 129.5 m, totaling 247.6 points. Freitag also performed impressively with jumps of 135.5 m and 129.5 m, garnering 244.4 points, just narrowly missing out on second place.
Both athletes expressed their happiness with the results, especially Schmid, a seven-time world champion, who noted that the overall performance felt good and was excited about continuing this momentum. The event serves as an encouraging debut for new German national coach, Heinz Kuttin, who is looking to build on this success for the upcoming season.
The competition showcased the strong talent within the German team, as both Schmid and Freitag had previously won their individual jumps, leaving a powerful impression as they head further into the season. The third German, Juliane Seyfarth, finished in 14th place, highlighting the competitiveness of the team at this event.
