"We're shooting ourselves in the knee": Competitions in Ruka exposed the World Cup in Ski Jumping

— If a fan turned on ski jumping during dinner, they likely couldn’t last until the end of the competitions. With such competitions, we are harming the discipline. Some were wondering what was going on. And this is not the first time — Rafał Kot, a member of the Polish Ski Association, exclaimed in an interview with WP SportoweFakty.

The competitions took a toll from the rampant wind. Interrupted events and canceled series did not help promote ski jumping or convince potential new fans to follow the competition. Rafał Kot underscored the organization of such competitions as detrimental.

— We have the beginning of the season. Surely some turned on their receivers to see what's happening. Many fans who don’t follow it regularly surely tuned in to the World Cup at this stage. Meanwhile, someone sits before the TV, sees constantly interrupted competitions, and listens to commentators emphasizing that the wind dictates conditions and affects results. I don't know if even the most patient lasted to the end. Such competitions should not take place; it was an anti-advertisement. We are shooting ourselves in the knee — Kot believes.

Next, we have competitions in Wisła. The start is this coming weekend.

The next ski jump competitions will take place next week in Wisła. The FIS World Cup events at the Polish venue will begin on Friday, December 6, with training and qualifications being held first. The following two days will host individual competitions (after 3 PM). See the full schedule >>>
