Record World Champion Considers Retirement: "Probably My Last World Championship Jumping"

Record World Champion Katharina Schmid is considering her future after what she describes as an unfortunate World Championship in Trondheim. It seems she may not participate in the 2027 championship, but there is still a chance for the upcoming 2026 Winter Olympics. Schmid expressed, "I will take time after this season to think about everything. I can't say with 100% certainty, but probably that was my last World Championship jumping."

Initially, Schmid made her debut in the world championships in 2013, winning seven gold medals under her maiden name Althaus before recently slipping into a crisis after a strong start to the season. Although she secured a bronze medal in the mixed event at the World Championships, she fell far from the top positions in the individual competition.

Kuttin emphasized that Schmid's retirement has not been discussed, stating, "We've never talked about it during the season." He hopes to see a tendency in her decisions soon, as they need to be prepared for upcoming training camps very soon. Kuttin believes that there are now two competitive athletes capable of leading the team, unlike before when Schmid was the only one leading the charge.
