Prevc Wins Raw Air Despite No Sunday Flying
Nika Prevc, on her 20th birthday, marked her 20th victory in the Ski Jumping World Cup and continued her successful winter amid the winds of Vikersund.
In Saturday's competition, which was only completed in one round due to bad visibility, Prevc soared to a distance of 213.5 meters (201.1 points), significantly outperforming her compatriot Ema Klinec, who scored 169.8 points. Selina Freitag also made the podium with a jump of exactly 200.0 meters, finishing third with a score of 157.0 points.
As the concluding flight on Sunday morning was cancelled due to severe wind conditions, Prevc secured her first overall victory in the Raw Air Tour and took home a €20,000 prize. This year's tour saw only two venues, as Trondheim was removed from the schedule due to scheduling conflicts, leading to a lower prize pool than in the previous year.
Prevc, who set a world record of 236.0 meters on Friday, celebrated her eighth consecutive World Cup victory in Vikersund. Furthermore, she claimed victories in both individual competitions at the World Championships in Trondheim, while her brother Domen captured gold in the individual event overshadowed by controversy around Norwegian suits.
On Saturday morning, the competition's first attempt was halted after 21 out of 22 competitors had jumped, with Freitag leading at that time. Prevc was the only one left in the air as immense updrafts hindered her, prompting the jury to void the results and reschedule the competition for the afternoon. Ultimately, the Sunday events had to be scrapped altogether.
