The Polish Ski Association has revealed the team that will represent Poland at the upcoming Ski Jumping World Cup in Sapporo. The announcement comes shortly after the Lake Placid competition ended on Sunday. In a surprising twist, coach Thomas Thurnbichler opted for a lineup that includes this season’s leader, Paweł Wąsek, who will take part in the Sapporo event. Earlier expectations were different, and many fans were taken aback by the final decision.

According to the announcement, the Polish team in Sapporo will be led by Paweł Wąsek, with Kamil Stoch, Kacper Juroszek, and Maciej Kot – who recently shone in Continental Cup events – completing the roster. This World Cup round in Sapporo is seen as the final tune-up for the Polish jumpers before the World Championships in Trondheim.

Coach Thurnbichler commented that both Kamil Stoch and Maciej Kot have an excellent chance to demonstrate their form at the World Cup level. Their performances in Sapporo will be a crucial factor in making the final selection for the World Championships. Meanwhile, athletes such as Aleksander Zniszczoł, Jakub Wolny, Piotr Żyła, and Dawid Kubacki will take a break from the World Cup circuit to focus on preparing for the upcoming World Championships.

The Sapporo event is scheduled for the weekend of February 15-16, and it will serve as the last competitive test before the world championships and subsequent challenges in Oslo and Vikersund. Fans of Polish ski jumping now have a clear view of the team that will be competing on the international stage in Japan.
