The first weekend of the new World Cup season did not go as hoped for the Polish team. In an interview with TVP Sport, coach Thomas Thurnbichler evaluated Sunday's competition in Lillehammer, mentioning his disappointment.
The season opener in Lillehammer brought points to the overall classification for four Polish athletes - Paweł Wąsek, Aleksander Zniszczoł, Dawid Kubacki, and Kamil Stoch, while Maciej Kot did not manage to score. The best performance among them came from Wąsek, whose 14th place on Saturday was the highest among the Poles. The following day, he finished 23rd.
In his conversation with TVP Sport, Thurnbichler assessed the performance of the Polish jumpers in the Sunday competition in Lillehammer. When asked if he felt disappointed, he replied:
– "Honestly, a bit yes. But definitely not because of the results, but more because during the three days we were here, we did not see consistent progress. There were fluctuations. Today, I believe, the boys wanted to do too much at once. Some tension appeared, particularly noticeable in Paweł Wąsek's performance,” Thurnbichler stated for TVP Sport.
The Austrian coach admitted that Wąsek, having a slightly curved spine, must correct his take-off position every time he jumps.
– "Paweł struggles with maintaining body symmetry on the ramp. But also Dawid Kubacki made a mistake during his jump transition, doing it too quickly. The skis didn’t follow properly. Aleksander Zniszczoł simply didn’t find the right rhythm on the takeoff here. This happened throughout the weekend, as he himself mentioned. However, it’s not a big deal; overall they are doing quite well at this moment. We know everyone can jump better, and now we just need to find the right rhythm and feeling,” Thurnbichler emphasized.
