Poland approaches the Letnie Grand Prix competition in Wisła this Sunday with a renewed sense of hope. Leading the charge is Dawid Kubacki, who made an impressive jump of 129 meters during the prologue, securing a commendable fourth place after taking advantage of favorable wind conditions. Notably, all Polish competitors finished within the top ten, while the competition was dominated by Norway's Marius Lindvik, who clinched victory with a jump of 130 meters.
The excitement continues this weekend at Wisła as the Letnie Grand Prix unfolds. On Saturday, heavy rainfall posed challenges to the athletes, yet Marius Lindvik stood out as the top performer, followed closely by Estonia's Artti Aigro in a surprising second place, and Switzerland's Gregor Deschwanden in third. The highest-placed Polish skier was Aleksander Zniszczoł, who managed to secure eighth place.
Before the first series of competitions on Sunday, a prologue was held with 43 jumpers, eliminating the need for qualifiers. However, a notable absence was Kamil Stoch, who finished 16th and did not qualify for the second round, as only the top four Polish athletes from Saturday were eligible to compete again.
Initially, weather conditions at the Wisła ski jump posed a challenge. While the rain had ceased and the sun broke through, strong tailwinds hindered long-distance jumps. After 23 jumps, Norwegian Isak Andreas Langmo was in the lead with a distance of 123.5 meters.
The first to break the 130-meter mark was Halvor Egner Granerud, who soared to 132 meters. Following him, Poland's Paweł Wąsek utilized the conditions to reach 128 meters. Shortly after, Tate Frantz made an impressive landing at 133.5 meters, prompting the judges to lower the starting platform due to the wind.
Jakub Wolny achieved 129.5 meters, expressing his satisfaction with the jump, while Aleksander Zniszczoł recorded 127 meters. The final jumper, Kubacki, benefited from the favorable conditions, concluding his jump at 129 meters, securing his spot as the top Polish performer in the prologue.
The prologue podium saw a Norwegian sweep with Lindvik taking first place (130m), Granerud in second, and Johann Andre Forfang in third (129.5m). In addition to Kubacki, two other Polish athletes made it into the top ten: Jakub Wolny in fifth, Zniszczoł in sixth, and Wąsek in ninth.
