Renovations Complete at Poland's Ski Jump Ahead of Summer Grand Prix

The ski jump at Wisła Malinka has undergone a swift renovation, just in time for the upcoming Summer Grand Prix ski jumping competitions scheduled for September 14-15. The facility faced necessary repairs due to a land slip on the landing hill, a consequence of recent heavy rainfall. Tomasz Laszczak, the managing director of the ski jump, highlighted the importance of these improvements to uphold international standards.

Originally, the men's and women's events were set for August 17-18; however, adverse weather conditions necessitated a postponement. The competitions will now take place on September 14-15, with qualification rounds on September 13. Unfortunately, the women's event has been canceled due to a lack of entries.

A brief glimpse into the ski jump's history shows that its origins date back to 1933. It was decommissioned in 2002 due to safety concerns, prompting a reconstruction effort that began in September 2003. After five years, the revamped ski jump reemerged, featuring artificial lighting and a plastic surface.

In 2023, further renovations were conducted, notably altering the take-off ramp, which led to the cancellation of the initially planned Summer Grand Prix events, forcing the competitions to be held at different locations. Significant renovations were finalized ahead of the World Cup set for January, but ongoing work continues at the site.

This year’s Summer Grand Prix features ten events, commencing with the first two competitions held in Courchevel on August 13 and 14, where Austrian Stefan Kraft triumphed. Following events are scheduled for Wisła, then moving to Romania and Austria, and concluding in Germany on October 5-6, which will include a mixed team event.
