Piotr Żyła Laughs at Himself, Talks About Drama and Helplessness

Piotr Żyła laughed at himself as he expressed his feelings of helplessness regarding his ski jumps during training at Średnia Krokiew before the Polish Championships. He managed jumps of about 80 meters, considering 90-meter attempts a success. As of Friday and Saturday, he reported better performance, though he acknowledged it wasn't at the level fans were used to seeing.

On October 19, 2024, at 17:27, Żyła reflected, "I did my job, what I could, and I'm satisfied. This might not sound great since I only placed sixth at the Polish Championships, but I'm happy to have competed and felt my jumps improving." He did highlight that placing sixth with a significant gap from the winner might not be seen as success, along with his tenth composite score in team competition.

Moreover, it’s important to note that Żyła returned to the slopes at the end of September after having a knee procedure. He said, "Nothing hurts, and I’m glad about that, but it feels strange. Lately, I fasten my skis and think, 'What’s going on? Something feels different.' I couldn’t bend my knee well before, and now there’s comfort as I can flex it fully.

He admitted that he jumped quite well in Wisła and Szczyrk but faced difficulties on the Średnia Krokiew track, especially in the earlier training sessions. “I jumped 80m, and hitting 90m felt like a real achievement. In Wisła, I had good jumps at the fast inrun; I came here yesterday, and it was dramatic. I’m pleased with how I gathered myself, as my position improved jump by jump,” he remarked on Friday.

This improvement gives him optimism before the winter season. "There is still plenty of time left. This situation shows that a lot can happen from one day to the next,” he concluded, emphasizing the necessity of increasing jump counts ahead, especially on ice tracks.
