Polish ski jumper Paweł Wąsek, the best ranked Pole in the contest, finished in 19th place at the World Cup event in Sapporo. Speaking after the competition, he admitted that the conditions were so unfavorable that winning was out of the question. "It kinda pisses me off, but you can’t change nature," he said.

On the Eurosport broadcast, Wąsek added, "I don’t hold a grudge against nature; sometimes things just happen and you have to get used to it. I’m not devastated because both jumps were technically good, even though they weren’t flawless." He mentioned that small errors occurred and that eliminating them would require a longer analysis, which he couldn’t do immediately due to time constraints. Wąsek expressed hope that his performance would improve in the second contest on Sunday.

The article also noted that fellow Poles Kamil Stoch and Maciej Kot are scheduled to compete on February 22 and 25 respectively. It highlighted that Japanese jumper Ryoyu Kobayashi won the contest, followed by Austria’s Jan Hoerlem and Slovenia’s Domen Prevc.
