Paschke Takes Third Place in Wisla

In the first victory for Austria's Daniel Tschofenig, seasoned jumper Pius Paschke finished in third place, maintaining his lead in the World Cup ranking.

Pius Paschke continues to be the standout German jumper this winter. The 34-year-old secured third place in Wisla, losing out only to first-time winner Daniel Tschofenig from Austria and Swiss jumper Gregor Deschwanden. With his fourth podium finish in five competitions, Paschke holds the top position in the overall World Cup standings.

"It was a cool competition. I got into the groove again and I am very satisfied with the result. But there’s still some work to do - it doesn’t stop here," said Paschke, who received praise from head coach Stefan Horngacher during an interview with ARD, acknowledging his "great job".

Showing strong form as a late starter, Paschke impressed again with two solid jumps of 127.0 meters (273.9 points). He was just a meter and a half away from Tschofenig, who topped the day with 276.8 points (132.0 and 135.5 m).

Mixed Results for Other DSV Jumpers

The other German team members had mixed results on the Malinka hill. Karl Geiger, as the second best German, confirmed his upward trend with an eighth-place finish. Two-time Olympic champion Andreas Wellinger from Ruhpolding, who recently won in Kuusamo, had to settle for 22nd place - a stark contrast to his first World Cup victory at Wisla in early 2024 at the age of 18.

Philipp Raimund from Oberstdorf finished 14th, followed closely by Stephan Leyhe from Willingen in 18th place.

A further setback was encountered by Markus Eisenbichler, who, after finishing 43rd in the second jump in Kuusamo, again missed the finals with a 40th place showing. Another individual jumping event is scheduled for Sunday at 15:15 (CET) in the LIVETICKER.
