After a year and three months, Dominik Paris finds his voice again, triumphing in the downhill race at Kvitfjell, Norway. The Italian skier finishes ahead of a robust Swiss lineup, collecting his 23rd World Cup victory and his 19th in downhill events. Paris hadn't won since December 2023 when he clinched a victory at Val Gardena.
In Kvitfjell, he clocked in at 1:44.67, recording a peak speed of 134.10 km/h, leaving his nearest competitor, Marco Odermatt, 32 hundredths behind. This win not only reinstates Paris in competitive form but places him second among all-time winners in downhill skiing, tied with Peter Mueller, and just behind Franz Klammer, who holds 25 victories.
"I worked hard between my last victory and today. When things don’t go as planned, finding solutions can take time, but I knew I was on the right path, and I proved that today. Being back at the top feels fantastic, especially amidst such strong Swiss competition," said Paris. The win comes as good news for the Italian team, who also celebrated a strong showing from fellow athletes in the same event.
The Kvitfjell course will host another downhill race tomorrow and a super-G on Sunday, promising more thrilling competitions ahead.
