Poles have had a poor start to the Ski Jumping World Cup season, and while things are not going well for the Norwegians either, local journalists are paying close attention to our team. Dagbladet published an article on former Norwegian coach Alexander Stöckl, who is currently working in Poland. "Polish ski jumping fans are shocked that their national favorites are underperforming," we read.
Over the weekend, three Polish jumpers scored points. On the first day, the best was Pawel Wąsek in 15th place, and Aleksander Zniszczoł and Dawid Kubacki finished in the third ten. The next day, Kamil Stoch replaced Kubacki in a scoring position, and none of the three managed to reach the top twenty. The Polish team's weaker results were noted by the Norwegians.
Norwegians React to the Results of Polish Jumpers
"Polish ski jumping fans are shocked that their national favorites are underperforming. It does not seem that this situation will ease anytime soon," write Dagbladet journalists. "The situation in Norway isn’t great either. The first World Cup competitions of this season have been dominated by Germans and Austrians," they add shortly after.
"Poland's weak start is a consequence of a poor season last year. The team is not reminiscent of its glory days. Coach Thomas Thurnbichler firmly denies that he is worried," continues the article.
The Scandinavian observations are not coincidental. Former Norwegian national team coach Alexander Stöckl took up the role of sporting director of our team this autumn.
"Many journalists in Poland are following the jumpers' performances in Lillehammer. With Stöckl at the helm, expectations for progress arise. — Alex observes me and provides feedback. He works with our staff in Poland. It's great to have him around. He has a lot of experience," says Thurnbichler, as reported by Dagbladet in a special piece about the relationship between the coach and the new director.
This weekend, the jumpers will head to Ruka in Finland. Jakub Wolny will replace Maciej Kot in the Polish national team. For live coverage of the competitions, we invite you to the Przegląd Sportowy Onet website.
