Norwegians Assess Losses after Ski Jumping World Cup: Crisis Committee Convened

Norwegians are raising the alarm as organizers of the ski jumping events in Vikersund reflect on why this year's World Cup competitions saw so few spectators. Only 6,000 fans attended the events on March 15-16, leading the organizers to assess significant financial losses exceeding 300,000 euros. Leif Arne Berget, chair of the organizing committee, stated, "We feared this outcome, but we cannot sustain such losses. We must find a solution."

This year, Vikersund is also set to host the World Cup in 2026, yet the future of this iconic ski jumping location remains uncertain as the Norwegian ski federation convened a crisis meeting to explore the alarming downturn. Berget indicates that close collaboration is needed in spring and summer to tackle the participation issues.

Vikersund has a long-standing association with ski jumping, hosting annual World Cup competitions and the 2022 World Championships in ski flying. The committee's challenge now is to restore the event's former glory and build back the enthusiasm among fans.
