Norwegian Ski Jumper Retires Due to Terrible Fall

Over the years, Sondre Ringen emerged as a significant talent in Norway's ski jumping community, having competed in the World Cup and making headlines with a jump of 241 meters in Vikersund in 2023. However, he has now declared his retirement at the age of 28 due to the repercussions of a severe fall he experienced on December 27, 2023.

In a heartfelt social media post, Ringen reflected on his career, stating: "It has been over a year since the serious accident that kept me bedridden for most of 2024. My recovery had been steady and mostly heading in the right direction, but considering the circumstances over the past year, it’s clear that my body won’t cooperate with high-level sports for a long time, if at all. Hence, with a heavy heart, I am now putting my skis aside."

Ringen also expressed gratitude towards his family, noting, "The little boy in the photos would be endlessly happy to know how fulfilling his sports career would be... It is safe to say one cannot be a top-level athlete without dedicated and supportive parents from the very beginning. My mother and father worked hard starting 20 years ago. Finally, I want to thank my wife for her support over the past 11 years. She has sacrificed a lot for me to fulfill my dream. I hope to experience many more wonderful moments on the ski jump, but not as an athlete."

Ringen participated in the World Cup during the 2017/18 to 2022/23 seasons, achieving his highest placement of 18th in Oslo in 2023. He regularly competed in events held in Norway and has even completed a full series in the Four Hills Tournament. His performance in the Continental Cup was notable, with four wins and finishing third in the overall standings in the 2022/23 season. Unfortunately, it was during these lower-tier events that he suffered his devastating injury after a fall in the Engelberg competition, leading to a concussion and a blood clot in his brain, forcing him out for the rest of the season.
