Austrian Olympic champion Toni Innauer expresses outrage over the cheating scandal that has emerged concerning the Norwegian ski jumping team during the recent World Championships. He believes the accusations highlight a total moral decline in the sport, asserting, "This is the greatest loss in this whole situation."
Andreas Wellinger, who narrowly lost to Norwegian jumpers, echoed Innauer’s sentiments, questioning how athletes could remain unaware of alterations made to their suits that contributed to their performance. Given this, Wellinger expressed hesitance about competing against the Norwegians in future events, outraged by the circumstances surrounding their victories.
The Norwegian ski team faced disqualification in light of a video portraying the manipulation of their suits, which was widely denounced by the ski community. The scandal not only tarnishes the reputation of the athletes involved but also casts doubts over the legitimacy of other performances in the sport. The head of the Austrian ski federation, Mario Stecher, has called for rigorous reviews of regulations to prevent future infractions.
