Nordic Ski World Championships - Wind Cancellations! Pinkelnig Finishes Fourth in Large Hill Competition

The Austrian women ski jumpers ended the Nordic Ski World Championships in Trondheim without any individual medals. Eva Pinkelnig could secure only the fourth place in the large hill event after strong winds hindered further competition.

The gold medal went to Slovenia’s Nika Prevc, who became the first woman to claim gold in both normal and large hill categories at the championships. The second position was taken by Germany's Selina Freitag, while Norway's Eirin Maria Kvandal secured bronze. Pinkelnig expressed her mixed feelings regarding the competition's abrupt end after the first jump. Despite the disappointment, she concluded the championships positively, satisfied with having been part of both the silver medal team and the bronze mixed team events.

Her teammate Lisa Eder also finished sixth, alongside Jacqueline Seifriedsberger and Julia Mühlbacher securing good placements but missing the podium. The head coach of ÖSV, Bernhard Metzler, commented on the missed opportunity while recognizing the strong performances of the teams.

As many athletes left the competition without medals, they reflect on how their participation in the championships was celebrated despite the disappointment with results. Prevc, on the other hand, celebrated her success amid high expectations, revealing the emotional roller coaster she underwent throughout the competitions.

The event was affected heavily by weather conditions, resulting in safety concerns that led to the cancellation of the second round, leaving many athletes and coaches contemplating what could have been.

Pinkelnig's performance was commendable but fell short of expected medal standings due to unfavorable weather conditions.
