Nordic Ski World Championships: DSV Jumper 'Not a Medal Favorite'

German ski jumper Pius Paschke, representing the DSV-Adler, has commented on Germany’s chances ahead of the Nordic Ski World Championships in Trondheim. In an appearance on the Sportschau winter sports podcast, Paschke—who has already claimed five wins this season—stated, "We surely are not going as big favorites. In the end, it’s all about winning a medal. That lets us jump with some freedom if you’re not considered a medal favorite."

Paschke explained that although he enjoyed early successes, he has recently struggled, missing the top 20 in five consecutive competitions. He also noted that the overall form of his teammates such as Andreas Wellinger and Karl Geiger has declined compared to the beginning of the season.

Reflecting on his own challenges, Paschke said, "It is about working constantly and it’s tough to get back on track. The challenge for me is to set the right focus. I already have a clear plan for the World Championships. Whether it will succeed remains to be seen." He deliberately refrained from reopening the discussion about national coach Stefan Horngacher, emphasizing a personal commitment to self-improvement.

The German ski jumping team has managed to win at least one individual medal in each of the last five World Championships. The first event in Trondheim is the individual competition on the normal hill, scheduled for Sunday at 17:00 (broadcast on ZDF and Eurosport).
